Pieter Wolfert is a lecturer at Radboud University. Before that, he worked on his PhD at Ghent University. During his PhD his focus was on nonverbal behavior generation and evaluation for embodied conversational agents such as virtual avatars and social robots, as well as on human-robot interaction (HRI). His research interests lie at the intersection of multimodal interaction and social HRI, with a particular focus on leveraging HRI for social good. He aims to ensure that his work in this field has a positive social impact, enhancing the wellbeing of individuals and society. He employs artificial intelligence, specifically machine learning, to improve human-agent interactions. Currently, his research is applied within healthcare and education, exploring applications such as integrating open-domain conversation with nonverbal behaviour in embodied conversational agents used in care centers like elderly homes and hospitals.
