My research focuses on how maize roots develop specialized barrier tissues, including the endodermis, exodermis, and multiseriate cortical sclerenchyma, and how these tissues contribute to adaptation to drought and soil compaction. I combine root phenotyping with single-cell and single-nucleus RNA sequencing to investigate the development, stress responses, and regulatory mechanisms of these barrier cell types.
