Motivation
Good mental and physical health is important for good learning. At the same time, we as humans sit far too much, which has negative effects on health. How can we encourage students to move more while learning to promote their health?
Hypothesis
Esther's expectation is that getting students moving during and/or between teaching moments has a positive impact on group dynamics, connectedness, concentration and student well-being.
Desired solution
Esther wants to get students literally moving more by introducing physically activating forms of teaching in the Biomedical Sciences (BMS) master's programme. This innovation will ensure that students sit less, move more and thus adopt a more active lifestyle. Eventually, an infographic and/or webpage will be developed for inspiration for other lecturers with practical examples of activities for moving learning, tailored to different teaching methods.
Plan of action
The project starts with a literature review to determine which moving forms of work are best suited to different forms of teaching. Afterwards, physically active brainstorm sessions with lecturers and students will be organised to collect additions. The ideas collected will be turned into an infographic and/or webpage with concrete examples for inspiration for lecturers. This will be presented and distributed to (course) coordinators of BMS and then more widely within Radboud University.
