Motivation
With her TLC voucher, Marloes investigates how different curricula influence students' motivation in learning skills, such as the physical examination of the musculoskeletal system. By analyzing curricula and interviewing students, she wants to improve medical education.
Hypothesis
With her research, Marloes wants to gain insight into the differences between the curricula of Dutch medical faculties with regard to the physical examination of the musculoskeletal system. In addition, she investigates how a curriculum influences students' motivation to learn skills, such as doing physical examinations of the musculoskeletal system.
Desired solution
The research aims to improve medical education by identifying the causes of differences in competence and self-confidence among medical students. By highlighting any shortcomings in the current curriculum, we can find new opportunities to adapt the curriculum and thus improve the quality of education. This will lead to greater self-confidence among students when they enter practice.
Plan of action
Marloes begins the project by distributing a questionnaire to eight Dutch medical faculties. This questionnaire covers topics such as the number of contact hours and the variation in the education offered concerning the musculoskeletal system. Next, the curricula of three faculties for musculoskeletal education are compared in more detail. Students from these three faculties also participate in a focus group in which more insight is gained into the relationship between motivation for teaching physical examination musculoskeletal and the design of a curriculum.
