    Content of programme

The iamGE&C is a unique programme that combines theory and practice, specifically designed for professionals who wish to contribute to the scientific discourse on giftedness. The program consists of five modules that gradually prepare you to excel both practically and scientifically.

Module I: Foundations of Gifted Education Support and Care (4.5 ECTS)

You begin with a solid foundation in recognizing, guiding, and supporting children and (young) adults with characteristics of giftedness. This module emphasizes their intellectual, social, and emotional needs and how you, as a professional, can provide appropriate support.

Module II: Research in Gifted Education and Care (4 ECTS)

This module focuses on research methodology and statistics, deepening your knowledge in the field of empirical research.

Module III: Putting Theory into Practice (12.5 ECTS)

In this module, you apply your knowledge directly in a practical setting. You work on improving your professional skills and contribute to the education and support of children and (young) adults with characteristics of giftedness in your work environment. This module emphasizes functioning as a 'scientist-practitioner'.

Module IV: Proposal Writing (15 ECTS)

Here, you develop an in-depth research proposal in which you investigate a specific issue within the field of giftedness. You elaborate your plan and present it during a seminar to gain inspiration and receive feedback from fellow students and instructors.

Module V: Research on Giftedness (24 ECTS)

In this final module, you develop the knowledge and skills of a scientist-practitioner. You conduct a scientific study and write an article that meets the standards for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Additionally, you present your research results at a conference. During the concluding seminar, you reflect on your research with your fellow students and discuss how you plan to make a lasting impact in the field of giftedness, both in science and in practice.

    Prof. dr. Lianne Hoogeveen

Prof. dr. Lianne Hoogeveen, as professor of special appointment 'Identification, Support and Counselling of Talent' at Radboud University, participates in both initial and postgraduate education on giftedness. For example, she is a lecturer in the Department of Pedagogical Sciences, and is the programme director of the International Advanced Master in Gifted Education and Care and the Radboud International Training on High Ability (RITHA).  Prof. Hoogeveen conducts scientific research in the field of educational adjustments for students with (very) high (intellectual) abilities. As a researcher, she is affiliated with the Behavioural Science Institute (BSI) of Radboud University and collaborates in research and education with colleagues from various domestic and foreign universities. As a GZ-psychologist, she counsels and treats children, adolescents and adults at the CBO Talent Development

    prof. dr. A.J.M. Hoogeveen (Lianne)

People should not be labelled as “gifted”. The question should always be: what does this particular child, adolescent or adult need and how can we best provide it? For example, what are the needs of a child who has above-average complex thinking? We need professionals who are able to recognize the talent who are under-challenged and then know how best to deal with that.

    Dr. Sven Mathijssen

Dr. Sven Mathijssen is vice programme director of the International Advanced Master in Gifted Education and Care and the Radboud International Training on High Ability (RITHA). He is also the Editor in Chief for ‘Talent’, a popular-scientific journal about giftedness, and general committee member of ECHA.

Sven studied Psychology (track: Child & Adolescent) at Tilburg University. During his training, he was an intern at Psychology Practice Frumau (now: PPF Centrum voor HoogOntwikkelingsPotentieel) the Center for the Study of Giftedness (CBO Talent Development). After his graduation, he worked as a developmental psychologist at CBO Talent Development until 2019.

Besides his working activities, Sven was an external PhD candidate at Tilburg University. In his doctoral research programme, he analyzed human figure drawings of children with high intellectual abilities. With research following up on his dissertation, Sven aims to develop a screening instrument, with which he attempts to contribute to the identification process of talents and needs of young children (4-6 years), who require services not ordinarily provided within the regular school curriculum.
