What will you learn?
This module focuses on the social and emotional development of gifted and talented learners. An overview of the characteristics and needs of gifted subpopulations, diversity issues and family/parental issues is provided. You will also be introduced to current teaching approaches and guidance interventions.
This course is part of the RITHA Practitioner program, which means you will be working alongside other participants in the program. For this course, we expect you to have basic academic writing skills.
Upon completion of this course:
- You will be able to analyse and evaluate the current literature on the social and affective characteristics and needs of pupils with (characteristics of) giftedness;
- Are you familiar with the characteristics and needs of learners with (characteristics of) giftedness and the implications for academic instruction, ethical leadership development and/or guidance interventions;
- Know key theories on the social-emotional, identity and career development of learners with (characteristics of) giftedness;
- Be able to help students with (characteristics of) giftedness adapt effectively to different environments, including home, school and society;
- Have practised designing lessons that include meaningful and engaging social and affective ones that promote social-emotional well-being, such as coping skills, proactive adaptive behaviour, achievement skills and social skills;
- Receive a certificate of participation.
