Internship assignment: Language testing for Dutch as a Second Language (NT2)

Are you interested in language testing and would you like to work on it yourself? Do you have an eye for detail and a good knowledge of Dutch? Our testing team has a great internship position available immediately.

The In'to Languages testing team works to assess and measure the language skills of students and staff within and outside Radboud University and Wageningen University. One of these tests is the RU-NT2 exam. The purpose of this exam is to determine whether prospective international students are sufficiently proficient in Dutch to start their studies at Radboud University, or enrol in other programmes that require a comprehensive certificate in Dutch language skills.

We will be feeding the test materials for this exam into our new testing platform, ANS, and you will be helping us with this process. Your tasks will be as follows.

Digitise

There is a lot of material that requires processing. You will be filtering this material and, where necessary, modifying and refreshing it to make it ready for digital use.

Compile

In the process of digitising this material, you will also be working on compiling new unique tests. Based on what is already available in the archive, you can compile multiple unique versions of the tests.

Construct

You can put together material for other versions of the tests, with a slightly different structure and level, in order to lay the groundwork for use with other target groups. You will of course receive extensive support from your colleagues in the testing team.

AI and automated assessment

Finally, if you have extra time left, you can also start creating frameworks to automatically assess speaking and writing exams using AI. We know from our own experience that this is a challenging part of language testing, but with rapid developments in generative AI solutions, we hope to now be able to take steps to meet the high levels of validity and reliability we require from our testing frameworks.

Internship allowance

The amount of the internship allowance is in line with Radboud University's policy.

Number of ECTS

Duration and start date by agreement; we can make room for both short and long internships, depending on your study programme.

Who are we looking for?

  • A good knowledge of Dutch
  • Affinity with language testing
  • A proactive and independent attitude
  • An eye for detail
