Content and approach
In this interactive workshop, we will take you through the basics of GenAI using demos and hands-on exercises. You will work on a short text or task from your own context, so make sure you have something to work on and bring your laptop. The workshop lasts three hours.
Our workshops are based on the science-based Framework for AI Literacy in Education (AI-GO). As a result, you will not only develop practical AI skills, but also the ability to engage with this technology in an informed way
What will be covered?
What you will learn:
- What GenAI is and what it can do
A plain language tour of popular GenAI tools and common uses such as drafting emails, outlining lessons, summarising reports, idea generation and adjusting tone and style of texts. - Responsible practice first
Protect privacy and confidential data, spot and reduce bias, credit sources fairly, be open about tool use, and keep human oversight. - Critically weighing up and evaluating
You will develop a critical approach to GenAI: you will learn to recognise its limitations and make informed choices about when and how to use it. You will also learn to assess the output for accuracy, tone and suitability for the target audience. - Effective prompting
Learn to write clear and structured prompts: state your goal and specify limits, ask for one step at a time, review a small sample, then adjust your prompt to improve GenAI outputs. - Choosing tools wisely
Compare various GenAI tools and pick what fits teaching, research and workplace tasks. Please note: RU staff are currently only permitted to use Copilot Chat.
What is the outcome of this workshop?
Having completed this workshop, you will:
- be familiar with various GenAI tools and know which one to use when;
- know how to get the best output and have prompt templates you can easily reuse;
- not only understand what GenAI can do, but also where its limitations and risks lie;
- know what to pay attention to in order to use GenAI responsibly thanks to our practical checklist;
- have plenty of inspiration, tips, links to further resources, and material to work with on your own.
Who is this workshop suitable for?
This workshop is aimed at anyone who has little or no experience with generative AI, but is curious about it and wants to know what added value it can offer.

Prefer to work on generative artifical intelligence skills individually or with your team?
Please contact our Tailor-made Department to discuss your needs. During an intake interview, we will determine what is desirable and feasible and we will discuss the approach and design of our offer, from a coaching programme to a short workshop or multi-day course.
A tailor-made course can take place in a small group with your team or department, but also one-on-one. Courses take place at our premises or in-company. In some cases, some or all of the course can also take place online. After the intake interview, you will receive an offer with a tailor-made programme. Radboud University and Radboud university medical center employees can take advantage of an internal rate.
