Constructive dialogue

Radboud University actively promotes a culture where it is natural to engage in conversation with one another and a workplace where people speak out, listen to each other and can grow. The Constructive Dialogue course will help you achieve that.

    General

    Constructive Dialogue course

This course will teach you how to have open and effective conversations, even when there’s friction. You will be given practical tools and will practise with situations taken from your own work environment. This way, you will contribute to a pleasant working atmosphere where there is room for openness, feedback and differences of opinion.

    Who is this course for?

This training is intended exclusively for employees of Radboud University.

This course is part of Prevent Care Cure’s core offering; all Radboud University employees should attend it. This is how we will work together to build a safe and open culture of dialogue within the university. Through broad participation, we will increase the impact of the course and ensure that everyone can engage in dialogue in a respectful and open manner on the same footing.

This course is not intended for supervisors. There will be a specific course on this topic that is aimed at them.

    How will it benefit you?

    After this day:

    • You will conduct conversations more confidently, even in challenging situations
    • You will be able to give, request and receive constructive feedback
    • You will be more aware of your own communication style and that of others
    • You will have concrete tools for conducting constructive dialogue

    What will you do?

Morning – raising awareness & skills

    • Communicating with Courage, Connection and Openness
    • How do you already contribute to an open working atmosphere?
    • How do we ensure psychological safety?
    • What influences your willingness to speak out?
    • You will learn to apply the RU model in practical exercises: connecting in conversations, setting boundaries, handling feedback (requesting, giving and receiving it).

Afternoon – practising conversation skills with an actor

In the afternoon, we will bring familiar work situations to life with an actor. Sounds scary? It’s not that bad. You will practise this with the group, not one-to-one. It is a learning experience: you will discover what works, receive targeted feedback and go home with practical insights that you can start applying straightaway.
