Course Dutch NT2 for intermediates II (halfway to B1-B1)

In this course you will learn the basics of the Dutch language. The course is the fourth part of a series of courses that prepare you for Staatsexamen NT2 (state exam in Dutch as a second language), programme II, within a year and a half to two years.

    General

    The main objective of the course is to learn to communicate in Dutch. All skills are developed: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. To this end, attention is given to such matters as grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Reading and writing skills are mostly practiced in the time allotted for self-study. Attention is also given to Dutch habits and customs.

    Who is this course for?

    This course is a good fit for you if you have completed the Intermediates I (A2-B1) course or achieved a similar level. You don't mind several hours of self-study per week.

    Pre-requisites to follow this course

    • You have followed 5 years of secondary education in your country of origin

    Certificate

    You receive a certificate upon completion of the course, provided you have attended at least 80% of the classes and you have passed the last two lessons, the result of which will appear on your certificate.

    Final level: The course will take you from level halfway to B1 to level B1 (CEFR). After this course you continue with the Dutch course for advanced (B1-B2).

    Group A

    This course takes place from 22 September 2025 until 14 January 2026.

    Class day and time: Mondays and Wednesdays from 10.45 am - 12.30 pm *
    Location: On campus in Nijmegen
    Number of participants: max. 18

    Group B- Online

    This course takes place from 22 September 2025 until 13 January 2026.

    Class day and time: Mondays and Tuesdays from 3.15 - 5.00 pm *

    Group C

    This course takes place from 22 September 2025 until 13 January 2026.

    Class day and time: Mondays and Tuesdays from 1.00 - 2.45 pm *
    Location: On campus in Nijmegen
    Number of participants: max. 18

    You should count on about 8 to 10 hours of individual study per week. There is no class in the week of 13 October because of the Autumn break and there is no class in the weeks of 22 and 29 December because of the Christmas break. If a lesson is cancelled, the catch-up lesson will take place in week 4.

    What will you learn in this course?

    You will learn Dutch to intermediate level B1 in Part 2 of this intermediate course. This class focuses on the different skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing.

    Reading

    You can understand texts that mainly consist of high-frequency, colloquial or work-related language. You can understand descriptions of events, feelings and wishes in personal letters.

    Listening

    You can understand the main points when listening to familiar topics that you regularly encounter at work, school, leisure, etc. when these are clearly spoken and pronounced in a standard dialect. You can understand the main points of many radio or TV programmes on current affairs or topics of personal or professional interest, when speakers speak relatively slowly and clearly.

    Conversations and speaking

    You can handle most situations that you come across when travelling in an area where the target language is spoken. You can participate in conversations on familiar topics or topics of personal interest or related to everyday life without preparation (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travel and current events).

    You can connect expressions in a simple way to describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions. You can briefly give reasons and explanations for your opinions and plans. You can tell a story, or describe the plot of a book or film and describe your reactions.

    Writing

    You can write simple coherent texts on familiar topics or topics of personal interest. You can write personal letters describing your experiences and impressions.

    • Standard fee: € 1.176,-
    • RU staff Radboudumc: free of charge (provided that they meet the necessary conditions for Language Policy Courses)
    • RU and Radboudumc employees and alumni: € 1,058.40 (10% discount)
    • WUR employees and students: € 1,058.40 (10% discount)
    • RU students: free of charge, provided that they meet the following criteria:
    1. You meet the 80% attendance requirement. If you do not meet this requirement, you will be charged € 504,-.
    2. You can attend one NT2 course for free. If you want to follow another NT2 course, you get 50% discount on the course fee.

    Instead of one NT2 course, you can also take two free Social Dutch classes as a RU student.
