Day course Dutch for beginners II (A1-A2)

This course for beginners give you a solid foundation in the Dutch language. This course is the second in a series that prepare you for the Staatsexamen NT2 (state exam in Dutch as a second language), programme II.

    General

    What will the course bring you?

    • have simple, short conversations on personal topics;
    • follow broadly everyday conversations on familiar topics;
    • understand broadly short, simple texts (brochures, advertisements);
    • write short, simple messages or emails.

    The main objective of these courses is to learn to communicate in Dutch. All skills are developed: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. To this end, attention is given to such matters as grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Reading and writing skills are mostly practiced in the time allotted for self-study. Courses conducted in Dutch.

    Who is this course for?

    This course is a good fit for you if you have completed the Beginners I (0-A1) course or achieved a similar level. You don't mind several hours of self-study per week.

    Pre-requisites to follow this course

    • You have followed 5 years of secondary education in your country of origin
    • Your command of English is A2 level or higher

    Are you integrating in Dutch society? Make sure to read the information about the civic integration programme and DUO loan.

    Certificate

    You receive a certificate upon completion of the course, provided you have attended at least 80% of the classes and you have passed the last two lessons, the result of which will appear on your certificate.

    Final level: Dutch at beginner level: A2 (CEFR). After the beginners course, you continue with the Day course Dutch intermediate I A2-halfway B1.

    This course will take place from 16 December 2024 until 28 February 2025.

    • Course days: Monday, Wednesday and Friday
    • Times: 08.30 - 10.30
    • Self study: 8 to 10 hours per week

    The course takes place at the Radboud University campus in Nijmegen, with a maximum of 18 participants.

    If a lesson is cancelled, the catch-up lesson will take place the week after the last lesson.

    Exam dates

    Exams take place in week 12 and week 13 (resit).
    Please note: you may only participate in the assessment, if you have attended at least 80% of the classes.

    What will you learn in this course?

    You will learn Dutch to A2 level in this beginners II course. This class focuses on the different skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing.

    Reading

    You can read short, simple texts. You can find specific, predictable information in simple, everyday texts like advertisements, menus and timetables and you can understand short, simple, personal letters.

    Listening

    You can understand sentences and the most frequent words related to areas of immediate personal interest (e.g. basic information about yourself and family, shopping, local geography, work). You can follow the main points of short, clear simple messages and announcements.

    Speaking

    You can communicate when performing simple, everyday tasks that involve a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities. You can handle very short social conversations even if you do not always understand enough to keep the conversation going independently. You can use a variety of phrases and sentences to describe your family and other people, living conditions, your education and your current or most recent job using simple terms.

    Writing

    You can write short, simple notes and messages that relate to immediate needs. You can write very simple personal letters, to thank people for things, for example.
