Language course for HR professionals

In a growingly international work field, as an HR professional you are increasingly confronted with employees and candidates from other countries. It is precisely in roles such as yours that clear communication and cultural sensitivity are crucial: whether in job interviews or in absenteeism management. This job-oriented tailor-made course will help you communicate professionally and confidently with international employees and relations, in the language of your choice.     Who is this course for?

    This course is intended for HR advisors and employees who interact with non-Dutch speaking colleagues, applicants, and business partners on a regular basis. This includes recruiters conducting job interviews in English, and HR managers discussing terms of employment with international employees. The course is available for groups and individual participants.

    What can you expect from this tailor-made language course?

    • Training in the language of your choice: English, German, French, Spanish or any other language you need in your work.
    • Focus on your working environment: No standard materials, but your own working environment is taken as the starting point. You will practise professional language and communication skills that are important in your work, from having sensitive conversations around performance to small talk with international colleagues.
    • Interactive modes of instruction: Think of role-play in which we simulate realistic work situations and writing assignments that you can use straight away in your day-to-day work.
    • Cultural awareness: Learn how cultural differences affect communication and how to deal with these differences successfully as part of HR processes, for example in negotiations, feedback talks, and leadership styles.
    • Targeted feedback: You will receive intensive guidance and feedback from an experienced language trainer who understands the HR sector.

    Content and approach

    We tailor this course fully to your needs or the needs of your team. We start with an intake interview, in which we identify your learning objectives, language level, work situation, and practical preferences. Based on this information, we put together a personalised programme, from an intensive short course to a comprehensive learning programme. Depending on your wishes, this may include the following elements:

    • Formal conversational skills, required for job interviews and sensitive conversations about absenteeism/functioning/dismissal, among others
    • Informal conversational skills, required for small talk in the lunch break, for example:
    • Explaining terms of employment or legal aspects
    • Writing emails and reports
    • Feedback on pronunciation, word choice, tone and structure of conversations and written communications
    • Insight into intercultural communication: habits, sensitivities, and non-verbal signals

    You can take this course on our premises, in-company, or online. It is also possible to combine these options.

    After completing this course, you will:

    • Communicate with more confidence and conviction in your chosen language
    • Have a larger vocabulary and better speaking skills
    • Recognise cultural pitfalls and know how to respond to them professionally
    • Be able to have complex or sensitive HR conversations without misunderstandings
