Language course Italian for absolute beginners (A1 - part 1)

If you would like to learn Italian and you have no previous knowledge of the language, this Italian beginner’s course is a good place to start. You will be introduced to the Italian language and culture and learn the basics of communicating in Italian.

General

After completing this Italian language course, you will be able to:

understand simple words, expressions and sentences;
ask and answer simple, short questions;
follow a simple conversation;
write simple, short sentences about personal matters;

The course focuses primarily on verbal communication, as well as reading, listening and writing skills. You will also learn more about Italian culture.

To receive a Radboud in’to Languages certificate, you need to attend 80% of the classes.

This course will help you on your way to language level A1. After completing this course, you can continue with the Italian A1 part 2 course to complete the A1 level.

Programme

This course takes place from 14 April until 16 June. There is no class in the week of 27 April and 4 May because of the May break.

Class day and time: Tuesdays from 6.00 - 7.30 pm
Location: On campus in Nijmegen
Number of participants: min. 6 - max. 18

Approach and content

Italian is spoken as much as possible during classes, with Dutch and English as the supporting language. This means that in some cases, it is possible to take the course even if you do not speak Dutch. Please contact our Service Centre for more information.

You should count on about three to four hours of individual study per week.

What do the classes cover?

Skills

You will learn how to:

Introduce yourself: say your name, how old you are, where you are from, and what you do for a living
Greet people and say goodbye, and ask for and give personal details
Talk about what you like and why and what you do on which days of the week
Share what you do in your spare time
Express your tastes and preferences

Grammar

Use of definite articles (il, lo, la, i, gli, le) and indefinite articles (un, uno, una)
Key verbs essere (to be), avere (to have), chiamarsi (to be named) and the conjugations in the present tense of verbs ending in -ARE, -ERE, and -IRE
Using and declining nouns and adjectives based on their gender and whether they are singular or plural
Forms and uses of the verb piacere to indicate that you like/enjoy something
