Language course Russian for intermediate students (B1)

If you can actively participate in a Russian conversation and you know how to express an opinion, and if you are familiar with reflexive verbs and you can understand simple Russian songs, this Russian B1 course will be suitable for you and will allow you to further develop your knowledge of the language so that you can achieve B1 level.

    General

    Entry level

    This course is the second part of B1-level Russian. In order to take part in this course, it is important that you possess the knowledge and skills from the previous language levels. For example, you should be able to actively participate in a conversation in slow Russian, be able to describe the weather and be able to read short Russian stories. You should be familiar with sentence fragments (i.e. sentences without a subject) and with double negatives in sentences.

    If you completed the preceding Russian halfway to B1 course at In’to, you will automatically be able to progress to this course. If you did not complete this particular course, we will invite you to take part in a telephone intake so that we can determine whether this course is appropriate for your language level.

    After completing this Russian language course, you will be able to:

    • have conversations on familiar topics;
    • understand the main points from simple texts;
    • formulate a personal opinion in a simple way;
    • write texts and e-mails on familiar topics;

    The course focuses primarily on verbal communication, as well as reading, listening and writing skills. You will also learn more about Russian culture.

    To receive a Radboud in’to Languages certificate, you need to attend 80% of the classes.

    After this course, you will have reached language level B1.

    Approach and content 

    Russian is spoken as much as possible during classes, with Dutch as the supporting language. This means you cannot take this course if you do not speak Dutch.

    You should count on about three to four hours of individual study per week.

    What do the classes cover?

    Skills

    • You will learn to give strong, convincing personal opinions and advice
    • You will learn to ask for medical help and describe how you feel (physically)
    • You will learn to read texts on specific topics
    • You will learn to congratulate people and wish them something at a party, toast someone, writing toasts
    • You will learn to write and present texts on familiar topics.

    Grammar

    We cover a range of topics in this Russian B1 course, including:

    • Transitive and intransitive sentences
    • Present and past participles of actives and passives
    • Verbs of movement
