Medical English

With the patient and client population becoming more international, healthcare professionals face the challenge of communicating with people that do not have a good command of Dutch. This tailor-made training course supports healthcare professionals to communicate confidently and clearly in English during triage, treatment and phone calls.

During the course, participants strengthen their English language skills so that they can communicate in an accurate, sensitive and professional manner with non-Dutch-speaking patients, clients, their family members and international colleagues.

    General

    Content and approach

All our training courses are interactive skills-based sessions in which we work with practical exercises, your own materials and case studies. During a tailor-made Medical English training course, you actively practise your spoken and/or written English skills and work with recognisable real-life examples. You receive targeted feedback and tips that enable you to immediately optimise your communication.

We provide training for teams, departments and individuals. We understand healthcare professionals and support staff carry out various roles, so we do a pre-course consultation to identify your learning objectives, goals and language proficiency. Then put together a tailor-made development programme based on your tasks, role(s), goals and needs.

Who is this course suitable for?

For healthcare professionals who wish to communicate more easily and effectively with non-Dutch speaking patients, clients or their relatives, and international colleagues.

What are the outcomes of this course?

After the course, participants will have the tools to communicate confidently, carefully and clearly in English within the context relevant to them.

Participants will receive a certificate from Radboud in'to Languages. This basically allows them to register points with KNMG/GAIA themselves. In'to will provide the required data.

What others say about our courses

The approach offered a good balance between theory and practice and could be easily adapted to the participants' questions and specific situations within the field. The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable, and it was extremely motivating to immediately apply what we had learned in conversations with clients.

We feel that we have moved from slower, sometimes inappropriate translations to smoother communication in English, which contributes greatly to providing high-quality treatment to English speakers within mental health care.
