What will this course bring you?

The main objective of the course is to learn to communicate in Dutch. All skills are developed: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. To this end, attention is given to such matters as grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Reading and writing skills are mostly practiced in the time allotted for self-study. Attention is also given to Dutch habits and customs.

Who is this course for?

This course is a good fit for you if you have completed the Intermediates II (B1) course or achieved a similar level. You don't mind several hours of self-study per week.

Pre-requisites to follow this course

  • You have followed 5 years of secondary education in your country of origin

Are you integrating in Dutch society? Make sure to read the information about the civic integration programme and DUO loan.

Certificate

You receive a certificate upon completion of the course, provided you have attended at least 80% of the classes and you have passed the last two lessons, the result of which will appear on your certificate.

Final level: The course will take you from level B1 to B2 (CEFR). After the intermediate course, you may continue with the Very advanced level B2-C1 course (evening course only).

This course takes place from 14 July until 25 August 2025. There is no class on 18 July.

  • Course days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
  • Times: 9 am - 12.30 pm (including a half-hour break)
  • Self study: 10 to 12 hours per week
  • Location: Radboud University campus in Nijmegen
  • Number of participants: maximum 18.

Exam dates

  • The assessment will take place on 28 August from 9 am - 1 pm. There is no resit for this course.
    Please note: you may only participate in the assessment, if you have attended at least 80% of the classes.

What will you learn in this course?

The advanced course will teach you Dutch up to B2 level. The classes focus on speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Speaking

You can present clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of topics related to your area of interest. You can take part in spontaneous conversations so normal exchanges with native speakers are reasonably possible. You can actively take part in discussions in familiar contexts and express your views.

Listening

You can understand longer speeches and lectures. You can follow complex reasoning on topics that are reasonably familiar to you. You can understand most news and current affairs programmes on television. You can understand most films in the standard dialect.

Reading

You can read articles and reports that deal with contemporary issues in which the writers adopt a particular perspective. You can understand modern literary prose.

Writing

You can write clear, detailed texts on a wide range of topics. You can write essays or reports, convey information and give reasons to support a particular perspective. You can write letters that explain the personal significance of an event or experience.
