Writing inclusive job vacancies

A vacancy text is your first chance to show that your organisation is a place where everyone can feel welcome. Many vacancy texts still unintentionally appeal to a very specific group. That is a shame, because it means you leave a lot of talent untapped.

This tailor-made course will teach you how to write vacancies that reach a diverse group of suitable candidates.

    Content and structure

    All our courses are interactive skills courses in which you work with concrete assignments and your own materials and case histories. In this course, you will gain insight into various aspects that contribute to inclusive vacancy texts. You will be invited to think through a range of sample texts and will be offered the tools you need to make your own vacancy texts more inclusive.

    In this course, we will work on themes such as:

    • Why recruit inclusively?
    • Where can things go wrong in communication?
    • Stereotyping and word choice
    • Addressing diverse groups of candidates
    • Gender-inclusive writing
    • Using images
    • Understandable language

    What is the outcome of this course?

    After completing this course, you will:

    • Know why inclusive recruitment is important and what the pitfalls are in communication
    • Be able to recognise and avoid unintentional stereotypes in your language
    • Know how to make sure that everyone feels addressed by your text or communication
    • Have gained an understanding of how to use visuals and understandable language to convey an inclusive message

    Who is this course suitable for?

    For anyone who wants to learn to use inclusive language to ensure their message reaches the widest possible audience, without people feeling excluded by word choice or wording.

    Tailor-made course or coaching programme: how does it work?

    During an intake interview, we will determine what is desirable and feasible and we will discuss the approach and design of our offer, from a coaching programme to a short workshop or multi-day course. The course can take place in a small group with your team or department, but also one-on-one. Courses take place at our premises or in-company. In some cases, some or all of the course can also take place online. After the intake interview, you will receive an offer with a tailor-made programme.

    What are the costs of a tailor-made course or coaching?

    The costs depend on the design and duration of the course. You will always receive a tailor-made quotation. An internal rate applies to Radboud University and Radboud university medical center employees.
