It can be useful to have a translation or language learning app at hand when you’re on holiday or exchange, to quickly look up a word or phrase. You can find a few useful apps below.
The Erasmus building is closed from 14 July until 8 August. During this period, you can visit Radboud in'to Languages in the Maria Montessori building. For more information, see our contact page.
Free translation and language learning apps for when you are on holidays

Duolingo
Duolingo is a free language app that our teachers sometimes recommend for extra practice, as a supplement to a course. This app is a fun and useful way to practise your Italian, for example, while sitting in Italy drinking a prosecco or cappuccino. Of course, it goes without saying that you will learn the most from socialising with locals.

Ananas
Ananas, created by a Dutch company, is the Tinder of language apps. Ananas calls itself the only ‘social’ language app, where you can learn another language by meeting other people. For example, you can use the app to meet up with a student in a café in Rio de Janeiro to brush up on your Portuguese. It is ideal for making new friends abroad.

Tandem Language Exchange
Tandem is an app that puts you in touch with native speakers to practise a particular language with. You can chat with each other and send voice messages. The app has several useful features, such as its built-in translation button and the option to correct other people’s texts.

Google Translate
The free Google Translate app is great tool for quick, short translations. Point your smartphone camera at a menu or a board in a museum, and you can basically make out what the text is about.
Language training at In’to
Do you really want to learn the language? Then take a look at our language courses or training courses to see if there is anything for you. We pay attention to pronunciation, grammar and the culture of languages during our courses.
