Research Centres

The researchers at the Research Institute for Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies work on fundamental questions about the nature, place, and meaning of humanity in the world. Their research covers philosophical, theological, and sociocultural topics, in particular philosophical and religious concepts and worldviews from past and present.

Our research is spread over six research centers.

Center for the History of Philosophy and Science (CHPS)

The Center for the History of Philosophy and Science (CHPS) investigates the intertwining of the history of philosophy and science. 

Center for Textual, Historical, and Systematic Studies of Judaism and Christianity (CTHS)

The Center for Textual, Historical, and Systematic Studies of Judaism and Christianity (CTHS) investigates the Christian and Jewish traditions that have influenced society over the last 3000 years. 

Center for Cognition, Culture and Language (CCCL)

The Center for Cognition, Culture, and Language (CCCL) investigates how language, culture and cognition influence each other.

Center for Religion and Contemporary Society (CRCS)

The Center for Religion and Contemporary Society (CRCS) studies the current position and role of religion and spirituality in contemporary society.

Center for Contemporary European Philosophy (CCEP)

The Center for Contemporary European Philosophy (CCEP) is the only scientific research center in The Netherlands that specializes in education and research on 20th and 21st-century continental philosophy. 

Radboud Center for Philosophy and Society (RCPS)

The major questions society currently grapples with demand a new philosophy; a more constructive, involved and approachable one. The Radboud Center for Philosophy and Society locates itself on the intersection of philosophy and society to gain new insights.

  • MIND-Set

    “You don’t know what it’s like!” Exploring the epistemic role of Experts-by-Experience in mental health care

    This project proposal addresses challenges of expertise-by-experience in mental health care. It employs a philosophical approach, clarifies the issue, explores conceptual frameworks, and establishes a collaborative network.

  • Space for Grace

    Space for Grace

    In the Space for Grace program Catholic faith communities in Germany, Flanders and the Netherlands are supported in (innovative) projects that enhance the vitality of these communities.

    The Sense of Touch

    In the research project 'The Sense of Touch: From Anomaly to Paradigm' Dr. Chiara Beneduce investigates how our sense of touch was conceptualized in the periode between the late Middle Ages and the early-modern period.
