Launching the NeurotechEU Collaboration Funding Call: Building Innovative Education Across Europe

Neurotechnology is evolving at pace and so is the way we teach it. The new NeurotechEU Collaboration Funding Call offers academic and professional staff across the alliance a unique opportunity to co-create innovative, challenge-based educational activities with partners from other NeurotechEU universities. The call officially opens on 16 March 2026, with a submission deadline of 30 April 2026. Successful projects will be announced on 15 May 2026, with implementation running until July 2027.

The NeurotechEU Collaboration Funding provides targeted financial support to lecturers and educators to design and deliver new joint teaching initiatives in partnership with colleagues from two to four NeurotechEU universities. The more partners are involved, the more funding you can receive ranging from €5,000 (two partners) to €10,000 (four partners).

This call is more than a funding opportunity. It is a platform to experiment, and to build durable educational partnerships throughout the NeurotechEU alliance. By working across institutions and disciplines, educators can create learning experiences that mirror the collaborative reality of modern science and technology.

Challenge-based learning

The call prioritises Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) activities that address scientific and societal challenges across at least two of NeurotechEU’s five defined content domains:

  1. Theoretical and Systems Neuroscience
  2. Neuromorphic and Robotic Systems
  3. Neuroinformatics and Artificial Intelligence
  4. Neurotechnology for Health
  5. Neurometaphysics

Eligible activities

Eligible activities include blended intensive programmes, hybrid or digital courses, innovation competitions, workshops, project weeks, and the development of new joint degree initiatives (MSc, PhD or BSc specialisations). Structured internships, co-created learning materials, and collaborations with external stakeholders are also encouraged.

Importantly, proposals that actively engage bachelor-level students are particularly welcomed, though projects may target learners at all levels, including lifelong learners.

How and when to apply

The call is open to academic and professional staff from all neurotechnology-related disciplines within NeurotechEU institutions and their affiliated partners. Early career educators are especially encouraged to apply. Projects will be assessed on jointness, interdisciplinarity, innovation, sustainability, feasibility, student perspective (including ECTS transfer), and societal relevance

The call will stay open until 30 April 2026. The results will be announced on 15 May.
