NRO Grant for Identification of Developmental Language Disorder in teenage newcomers

Teenagers who come to the Netherlands first learn the Dutch language in an International Bridging Class (IBC). Failure in mastering Dutch may be due to an unrecognized developmental language disorder (DLD).

In this project, the growth scores in Dutch language skills will be investigated and, if this growth is insufficient, the IBC-student will receive an intensive language support program to check if this helps.

This consortium, consisting of professionals from research, education and/or clinical practice, aims to develop a screening protocol for newcomers with DLD, so that developmental opportunities for this group of children are optimized after their IBC-stay.

For their project Tijs Kleemans and co-applicant Eliane Segers will receive the 'Knowledge for education of the future' grant (Kennis voor onderwijs van de toekomst) of NRO. We would like to congratulate them on this performance!
