SGW-XS grant for research into the political consequences of housing inequality

Radboud researcher Stéfanie André receives an SGW-XS grant from the NWO (Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research).

In the Open Competition SGW-XS, applications from 11 Radboud researchers have been approved. The grants of up to €50,000 are intended to facilitate promising ideas and innovative, high-risk initiatives within the SGW-disciplines. The proposed research is groundbreaking, and it is not certain in advance whether the intended objective will be achieved. What matters is that every result, whether positive or negative, advances science.

From Homes to Assets: Intergenerational Housing Inequality and Political Outcomes

Stéfanie André, Nijmegen School of Management (Public Administration)

In recent decades, housing has shifted from a basic need to a financial asset, deepening inequalities between homeowners and renters. This project investigates how housing tenure, wealth, and residential trajectories influence political preferences, trust in government, and political participation. A key innovation is the intergenerational perspective: are parents whose children are locked out of the housing market more supportive of affordable housing and social rental policies than those whose children already own homes? Using linked CBS microdata and LISS panel data, this project offers new insights into the political consequences of housing inequality across generations.

Congratulations Stéfanie!
