Starting in 2026, European legislation regarding the European Health Data Space (EHDS) will require organizations that manage health data to share it securely with researchers and other parties. Through the Active Vital Signs project, Radboudumc and Radboud University (within the OnePlanet Research Center), anDREa, Orikami, and Wijtz are developing a central, scalable data infrastructure that allows health data to be securely combined, analyzed, and reused, fully in line with this new legislation.
The infrastructure brings together five components: a reliable data source, a pseudonymization service, a secure access portal (developed within the OnePlanet Research Center), a secure working environment, and an automated certification process for medical algorithms. By enabling these components to work together seamlessly, hospitals, researchers, and companies will soon be able to develop, test, and implement new healthcare solutions more quickly and securely.
The project not only helps ensure compliance with legal obligations but also contributes to economic growth in the region. As a result, Gelderland can become a national hub for health data innovation, with export opportunities to the rest of Europe.
