Key question
How can AI help to present students with a language development disorder with learning materials in a personalised manner, based on Large Language Models?
About the project
In Dutch education, the focus is moving towards inclusive education, which requires a learning environment that is accessible for all students. This also includes children with specific learning needs such as language development disorders (TOS). They experience significant barriers in regular education due to the mismatch between their language skills and the requirements of standard learning materials and methods. This leads to challenges when it comes to independent learning and social integration. An innovative tool that uses Large Language Models (LLM) connects learning materials adaptively to the specific language level of students with TOS. This adjustments does not affect the professional quality of the material and matches the students’ individual needs and capacities better.

Funding
NOLAI is the national education lab AI for primary, secondary, and special education in the Netherlands, funded by the National Growth Fund. €80 million has been awarded for the period of 2022 to 2032 in order to develop prototypes and gather knowledge about AI in education together with schools, corporations, and scientists over the span of ten years. Each academic year, around ten new projects are launched all across the Netherlands. A project takes three years on average.
