Assessment Framework for Translatability of Animal Studies

Duration
March 2026 until August 2027
Project member(s)
Dr S. Lohse (Simon) , Carlijn Hooijmans (Radboudumc)
Project type
Research

Carlijn Hooijmans (RadboudUMC) & Simon Lohse (Radboud University, ISiS) receive €117,000 from the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN) to develop a prototype framework for assessing the translatability of preclinical animal studies to the clinic.

The project focuses on mapping the domains of translatability in the field of drug development for multiple sclerosis. The prototype framework is intended as a prelude to a more general assessment framework for the translational potential of animal models. The project thus aims to contribute to the responsible use of laboratory animals, i.e. fewer unnecessary animal experiments, and increase the likelihood of successful transfer of animal-based results to clinical practice.
