In the age of AI, it is challenging to determine whether online messages, images, and videos come from a reliable source. Think, for example, of deepfakes of doctors promoting pills or videos of politicians making questionable statements. The AuthentiMark project is developing innovative digital watermarking and signature technology so that internet users can be certain about the origin of digital content and more easily detect online impersonation, deception, and fraud. The project combines technical innovation with research into the use, acceptance, and support of these innovations.
A broad consortium with representation from multiple scientific disciplines and key societal sectors, such as government, healthcare, and the financial sector, contributes to AuthentiMark. The project is led by Prof. Dr. Jessica Piotrowski, Prof. Dr. Guda van Noort, and Prof. Dr. Christian Burgers of the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR) at the University of Amsterdam. At Radboud University, we are focusing on technical aspects and are developing new digital watermarks and signatures based on identity wallets.
More information about the project can be found on the University of Amsterdam website.
