Key question
How can AI support teachers in checking open questions?
Teachers believe checking tests to be time-consuming, repetitive, and unappealing. This is particularly true for open questions. This is something that requires a lot of time and effort, and sometimes it is difficult to do this in a fair and consistent manner. Grading support with the help of AI can help teachers to check tests more quickly and more consistently.
In this project we develop a prototype that teachers of the two involved schools can use to check their students’ work. We focus on answering the teacher’s needs regarding saving time, checking in a fair and consistent manner, and supporting useful discussions of the test in the classroom.
NOLAI is the national education lab AI for primary, secondary, and special education in the Netherlands, funded by the National Growth Fund. €80 million has been awarded for the period of 2022 to 2032 in order to develop prototypes and gather knowledge about AI in education together with schools, corporations, and scientists over the span of ten years. Each academic year, around ten new projects are launched all across the Netherlands. A project takes three years on average.
