The transition to a greener and sustainable future requires efficient and affordable technologies for large scale energy storage. Current technologies are mainly based on lithium-ion batteries, but the high maintenance, safety issues and limited availability forms a challenge in the current industry.
Copper redox flow batteries are a promising alternative for large scale renewable energy storage, because copper is an earth abundant metal. Our goal is to develop a new generation of copper redox flow battery that have a long lifetime (>20 years) and higher energy density than the state-of-the-art copper redox flow batteries.
