Motivation
The Faculty of Medicine offers students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of teaching through an elective internship. Although the elective internship is a nice introduction to the role of a teacher, participating students experience that they are insufficiently prepared for teaching. In order to better equip students, it is important to teach didactic skills. How can a new learning trajectory 'educational didactics' offer students tools in this regard?
Hypothesis
By giving students the opportunity to delve deeper into teaching, they can already gain experience in teaching during their studies. These experiences will result in more enthusiastic students and (hopefully) in continued engagement in education.
Desired solution
The purpose of this innovation voucher is to add the learning trajectory 'educational didactics' to the existing elective internship 'Education'. This learning trajectory will include a didactic program for a period of four weeks, in which one day each week will be devoted to various themes such as didactics and assessment. The aim is to provide students with practical, didactic and educational knowledge and skills. An important aspect of the learning trajectory is the emphasis on intervision, which allows students to learn with and from each other.
Plan of action
Jolanda and Mike start by developing the curriculum, drawing up the lesson plan and educational materials. After informing medical students about the new curriculum, the learning trajectory 'educational didactics' will actually be implemented. At the end, students and teachers evaluate the learning pathway together and adjust it based on the feedback received.
