The sharp increase in geopolitical tensions has also put international sanctions in the spotlight. The EU uses sanctions as a political instrument in its foreign and security policy. The business community must implement the restrictive measures, and financial institutions have a gatekeeping role in this regard. Sanctions have an impact on the commercial legal relationship between legal entities, the corporate governance of organizations, and the functioning of financial markets. In her doctoral research, Simone Peek investigates the bottlenecks and dilemmas that companies and financial institutions encounter when applying sanctions and how these may be resolved. This in particular in corporate law, contract law, financial law, and corporate criminal law.
