HeatGenes

Towards a generic genetic framework for plant reproductive heat tolerance
Duration
2020 until 2025
Project member(s)
Prof. I. Rieu (Ivo)
Project type
Research

Global warming, and in particular the increased frequency and severity of heatwaves, poses a serious threat to agricultural output and thus food security. In this project we broadly explore and get understanding of genetic variation that can improve heat tolerance of plant reproduction. In this way, we will identify plants that can directly be used for breeding of heat tolerant varieties of several crops and generate fundamental knowledge and methods that will serve urgently needed further studies and breeding efforts.
