The Internet of Things consists of the billions of devices that are hooked up to the internet. It includes a broad range of devices: domestic appliances such as washing machines and TVs, heating and air conditioning systems, IT-connected equipment in factories or the electricity grid, and public infrastructure such as traffic lights, bridges, and equipment for flood defenses.
In INTERSECT, researchers at six universities, three universities of applied sciences and TNO collaborate with around 30 companies and government agencies to investigate all aspects relevant to the security and privacy of IoT devices: ranging from design and implementation, monitoring and control, to legislation and governance. Research at Radboud University focuses on security-by-design (i.e. how to design, implement and test devices to ensure security) and on legal and regulatory aspects, especially in light of the new EU Cyber Resilience Act.
