Key question
How can AI help to provide a personalised learning programme with a focus on calculating with percentages, one of the basic skills in the economics course at vmbo-t level, which comparatively requires a lot of a teacher’s time?
Calculating with percentages is part of the basic arithmetic skills in the economics course at vmbo-t level. The teacher spends a lot of time on this in the second, third, and fourth year. AI can develop a personal learning route through the course materials of economics, with an emphasis on calculating with percentages. The teacher can also see the progress and results of the student and can use these to provide further guidance and support for the students.
NOLAI is the national education lab AI for primary, secondary, and special education in the Netherlands, funded by the National Growth Fund. €80 million has been awarded for the period of 2022 to 2032 in order to develop prototypes and gather knowledge about AI in education together with schools, corporations, and scientists over the span of ten years. Each academic year, around ten new projects are launched all across the Netherlands. A project takes three years on average.
