It has been questioned whether nurses can conduct the calculation of medication properly. Concerns have been raised in the media and in scientific research. Nurses feel responsible, but their abilities aren’t always up to par. How can education be improved to prevent mistakes? This question is tackled in this project among nursing students. First, the contribution of potential underlying factors to medical calculation is investigated. This concerns language ability, working memory and affective processes. Based on the outcomes, appropriate interventions are developed to improve students’ medication calculation skills.
