Wouter van Harten, PhD in the Applied Mathematics group of Gabriel Lord (Radboud University), was given the opportunity to work fulltime on an Alliander cases for three months. The PhD worked in house at Alliander, and was supported by Laura Scarabosio and Gabriel Lord during the internship.
The main topic of the internship was estimating the soil properties surrounding cables in the ground based on temperature measurements. It was a continuation of a finished thesis work of another student.
This new way of collaboration strengthened our partnership. It gave Wouter the chance to experience what it is like to work at an organization outside of the academic world. Alliander had the opportunity to dive into a topics which would stay on the shelf for a long time due to a lack of capacity in the team.
