Belle Vulto is working on a dissertation with the working title 'Het fixatiebeginsel in het faillissementsbeginsel'.

Belle Vulto researches the fixation principle in bankruptcy law. Once a bankruptcy commences, all legal positions of those involved are frozen. This fixation principle is important for a fair distribution of bankruptcy assets. For example, the bankrupt may not simply alienate his assets and creditors who acquire a claim during the bankruptcy proceedings may not simply share in the bankruptcy assets. The Supreme Court often cites the fixation principle in case law, yet it is not exactly clear what exactly the principle means and how it works.
