Beyond the Hard Problem: Consciousness, Function, and Life
This project investigates different philosophical approaches to the question whether AI can ever be conscious.
-
SPIN-CHIP
SPIN-CHIP is a Chips JU Project that aims to demonstrate the potential of magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) for the next generation of chips manufactured in Europe. Radboud University is participating in four work packages.
-
Commitments in interaction: The role of the addressee in establishing common ground
In this research the central question is how speakers navigate whether they agree or disagree with what is said.
-
One cell, three barrier fates
BarrierFates focuses on three cortical barrier cell types in roots: the endodermis, exodermis and multiseriate cortical sclerenchyma (MCS). We study how these barriers develop, how they respond to soil stress and how they influence plant performance.
-
How plant organelles respond to mechanical forces
We investigate how mechanical forces affect organelles inside plant cells, focusing on changes in the nucleus and endoplasmic reticulum, and how these responses help plants adapt their growth to mechanical challenges.
-
Beyond simplicity – Phenomenological reduction as an intervention in conspiracy theory research
This project investigates the assumption that conspiracy theorists have a preference for simple explanations.
-
Origins of Irreversibility
Origins of Irreversibility asks how macroscopic irreversibility emerges from microscopic chaos and reversible laws, bringing together physics, mathematics and philosophy to study randomness, entropy and emergence.
-
The health equality & value-driven ethical-AI network (HEAVEN)
With health equality & value-driven ethical-AI network we address, and potentially resolve, growing disparities in healthcare access and outcomes.
-
Hidden hearing and speaking problems in CMT
CMT1 is a muscle disorder that affects approximately 1 in 1,500 people. In CMT1, the myelin sheath (protective layer) surrounding the nerves is affected. This project investigates the extent to which CMT1 affects listening and speaking.
-
Wellbeing trainings on campus
This project examines how Dutch universities address staff wellbeing through trainings.
-
It’s a Kind of Magic
This research will investigate enslaved persons in Roman curse tablets. Curse tablets evidence the agency of enslaved people as integral part of the Roman populace.
-
Legume Generation
Legume Generation brings together breeders and researchers to develop better "protein crops", such as peas, beans, and lentils, that are more productive, stress resilient, and suitable for European farming.
-
PlantXR-reproduction
Heat and drought are a threat to food security due to their negative impact on crop yields. In this project we aim to understand how they impact plant reproduction, and contribute to climate-resilient crops.
-
HotCells
Heatwaves are a threat to food security due to their negative impact on crop yields. In this project we aim to understand how high temperature impacts the anther and pollen cells of plants.
-
X-tra heat tolerance
Heatwaves are a threat to food security due to their negative impact on crop yields. In this project we aim to understand how high temperature impacts fertility of the female parts of the flower.
-
CoolBloom
Heatwaves are a threat to food security due to their negative impact on crop yields. In this project we aim to generate crops that are more heat resistant.
-
VR-based communication training for healthcare professionals
We are developing a VR training program for healthcare professionals in training to improve communication with vulnerable patients, including people with aphasia and dementia. The training helps professionals to prevent and repair miscommunication.
-
Muslim Foodways Network
Learn about the invaluable work of the Muslim Foodways Network.
-
AuthentiMark
The AuthentiMark project is developing innovative digital watermarking and signature technology so that internet users can be certain about the origin of digital content and more easily detect online impersonation, deception, and fraud.

Touch in people with Autism Spectrum Disorder
We are interested in understanding how touch perception differs between individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and neurotypical individuals. For this, we combine brain measurement and subjective rating.
