In this project, we want to learn more about what children do while playing outdoors until the age of twelve, why they do it, and how to be active. Three questions are central to this:
- How much, how and where do children move while playing outdoors?
- What role does the social and physical environment play during outdoor play?
- How can we encourage movement and enjoyment of movement during outdoor play?
To answer these questions, we will apply different research methods. For instance, accelerometers will measure movement behaviour, and observations will occur. Children's perspectives will also be investigated by using GoPros and neighbourhood safaris. Here, we focus on outdoor play in the neighbourhood and outdoor play at nurseries and schools. Studies are always conducted in cooperation with social partners, resulting in the translation of scientific insights into practice.
