School en Omgeving

Duration
1 November 2024 until 31 October 2027
Project type
Research

Schools with a high proportion of students with limited access to extracurricular development opportunities often provide a programme called "School en Omgeving." This supplementary educational programme, conducted outside regular school hours, aims to provide equal opportunities for personal development. Commonly referred to as the "Rijke Schooldag", the programme includes additional individual tutoring, cultural classes, music, sports, or initiatives focused on developing digital skills.

The programmes vary in content and objectives and are often delivered by various external organizations collaborating with schools. In this project, we investigate the programme theories underlying the design of the Rijke Schooldag and how different activities align with this programme theory at three secondary schools. Within the context of these programme theories, the study evaluates the effectiveness of the programmes for students: to what extent do the programmes contribute to achieving their intended goals?
