Strategic collaboration between Political Science RU and PBL

In this project, researchers from Political Science and Social Sciences are studying the politicisation and polarisation of environmental issues, and in particular (the lack of) support for nitrogen and climate policy.

The multi-year PBL programme “The role of governments in social transformation processes” has entered into a cooperation agreement with the Department of Empirical Political Science at Radboud University Nijmegen and the RSCR (Radboud Social Cultural Research) from the Faculty of Social Sciences to collaborate over the next few years on issues of polarisation and politicisation in relation to the living environment and what this means for socio-political dynamics surrounding (acceptance of) living environment policy. The overarching question on which we want to collaborate in Development and Research is: 'What does the politicisation and polarisation of environmental and living environment policy mean for the social and political dynamics of social sustainability processes, what does it mean for the PBL and for governments, how can policymakers and researchers deal with this more effectively and, despite polarisation and politicisation, still relate to society at large and reach society at large with knowledge, reports and (targeted) policy interventions?"
