Within hardly more than a decade, the rise of broadband, mobile communication, and social media have made us more prosperous than ever. We now have a tremendous amount of information at our fingertips. However, at the same time, our human capacity to deal with all of this information has not grown. As a result, an attention economy has emerged, which features human attention as the scarce resource that advertisers, journalists, politicians, and even our neighbours compete for. This project aims to investigate the consequences of this development, both at an individual and societal level.
