Controllers are vital members of organizations, helping management to reach organizational objectives. Traditionally, controllers have focused on financial performance, using a set of relatively standard accounting concept and techniques. Today, however, societal demands for increased transparency and accountability for non-financial performance affect the profession. Controllers are becoming key players in meeting the challenges of societal demands for environmental and social sustainability. The revolution in IT and data science also poses challenges for controllers to remain on top of things, but also empowers their jobs. This project aims to inventory these developments for controllers, based on surveys and interviews in cooperation with the Dutch VRC (Vereniging van Registercontrollers).
