A well-known piece of advice on persuasion is to use strong arguments with an audience that is motivated to read a message, and to use a large number of arguments, regardless of their quality, with an audience that is less motivated. The classic study underpinning this advice has hardly been replicated. This project therefore replicates that study twice in an exact manner, twice in roughly the same manner, and concludes with a meta-analysis of all replications to ascertain whether the advice holds up.
