It is well known that people with ASD often have altered perception. This can be either stronger (hypersensitivity) or weaker (hyposensitivity) compared to neurotypical adults. This research aims to find neural signatures that contribute toward biasing perception in ASD individuals towards either side of this spectrum. To this aim, we use haptic stimulation of the foot sole, combined with measurements of brain activity (EEG), muscle activity (EMG) and subjective rating to study how touch stimuli are perceived in ASD individuals and compare this to neurotypical adults.
At this stage, we are looking for participants with a diagnosis of ASD according to DSM-5, no diagnosed intellectual disability and at least 18 years of age.
