Despite the fact that vaccinations save millions of lives, vaccination rates are declining - even in countries where vaccines are easily available. As a consequence, diseases that could have been eradicated - such as measles - have seen recent resurgences, posing a major threat to global health.
In my research I ask: How do people decide about vaccination, and what makes them hesitant? Which role does bias play in decision-making and in the processing of vaccination information? How can evidence-based communication better inform and support people’s vaccination decisions? To get an answer to these questions, I collaborate with colleagues from the Behavioral Science Institute, Radboudumc, Public Health Services, and various (inter-)national universities.
