People worldwide are getting more inactive, with all negative consequences. We also see this decline among youth in the Netherlands, and especially students in prevocational education move less and participate less in organized sports. How can we challenge this group to be more active, and more importantly, how do we reach this group and communicate effectively with them?
In three steps, we want to bring research in sports and exercise on the one hand, and students in prevocational education on the other hand, closer together. By means of design thinking techniques, we will delve deeper into the problem of inactivity, and how to communicate about this, together with the students. Next, we will work together towards innovative communication strategies that are suitable for this target population. This fits with their needs of autonomy, independence, and being taken seriously. The end goal is to provide the students themselves with tools to communicate to their peers about sport and active living, and to collaborate on innovative methods and solutions. In this project, the students are co-owners of the problem and will organize the activities in collaboration with others.
