About RIBES

The Radboud Institute for Biological and Environmental Sciences (RIBES) is one of the research institutes within the Faculty of Science of Radboud University. RIBES performs top quality research with excellent experimental facilities on themes with high societal relevance.

Mission: Towards Healthy Ecosystems

The Radboud Institute for Biological and Environmental Sciences (RIBES) aims to perform world leading research in order to understand the response of the natural environment to human impact.

RIBES investigates stress and adaptation processes in severely affected ecosystems. This curiosity-driven, fundamental research is cross-linked with innovative applications in both industry and society with a focus on mitigating ecosystem degradation and finding solutions to restore the natural environment.

RIBES is (inter)nationally unique, as its research encompasses three major groups of organisms (microorganisms, plants and animals) and spans nearly all levels of biological organisation.

In addition to developing world-class research, the institute is dedicated to first-rate education in its Biology BSc, MSc and international PhD programmes.

Management team

The management team (MT) of RIBES consists of one member of each research department in the institute, plus the managing director.

Mark Huijbregts (research director)
Sarian Kosten
Sebastian Lücker
Ivo Rieu
Jennifer Koelman (managing director)

The management team of RIBES is supported by policy officer Lara de Die and management assistant Bea van Beurden.

Sustainable Development Goals

Through our mission Towards Healthy Ecosystems, RIBES aims to have a significant impact on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Life on Land, Life Below Water, Climate Action, Zero Hunger, and Clean Water and Sanitation, and address important challenges of our future society.
