The KDC collections can be studied at heritage collections reading room. You always need to make an appointment beforehand.
Plan a visit to the KDC
Follow these steps if you want to request records from the archival collections.
Note: this procedure also applies when you want to come and study audiovisual material (e.g. recordings, slides, fiches, film strips, photos, etc.) and publications from the KDC library collection that cannot be borrowed.
Steps for requesting records at the reading room
The KDC and Radboud University own only a part of the collection. Another part of the archives is only in the KDC's custody. The archives that are owned by the KDC are public and free to study in the reading room.
But, the part of the archives that is only in the KDC's custody, requires the researcher to first ask permission from the archive owner. This can be done through the KDC archivist.
Check Collections A-Z to find out of a permission request is required. Note: you can find this information in the catalogue as well.
Note: The permission procedure may take up to 10 workdays.
If the archive is public or written permission has been granted, archival records can be requested using the form below.
You must also book a workspace and a time slot in the heritage collections reading room (using the same form). You cannot visit the reading room without an appointment, so always plan your visit in advance.
Note:
- You may request several archival documents in one booking, but it is not possible to request an entire archival collection at once. Large requests may be split into smaller parts (in consultation between the information officer and you). If in doubt about the size of your request, you can consult the information officer.
- Tell us if you need more than one visit to study the documents, so we can store them for your next visit. Please make a new appointment for a workplace and time slot in the reading room for each subsequent visit. This can also be done on the spot by our information officer.
Scans on demand
It is not possible to send or lend archives. If you would like to consult archives remotely, please submit a scan request.
Education
Are you a teacher (or student) and would like to plan a seminar or tour of the archives? The heritage that the KDC manages is very diverse and offers many opportunities within the educational programme.
Please send a message and we will be happy to discuss the possibilities.
