Note that most of our publications are only available in Dutch, with the exception of Trajecta, which is only available in English.
Impressie is the KDC’s heritage magazine and is published twice a year. This popular science magazine highlights the latest research findings from the field and aims to inspire students and young researchers with in-depth articles and features on Catholic heritage, as preserved and/or studied here at Radboud University and at other institutions in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Trajecta. Religion, Culture and Society in the Low Countries publishes peer-reviewed articles on the historical dynamics between religion, culture and society in the Low Countries and the associated heritage. The English-language journal covers all denominational and religious traditions that have played a role in the history of the Low Countries and their (former) colonies. Since 2019, Trajecta has focused primarily on the modern history of religion (Christianity, Judaism, Islam and ‘new’ religions) and on the processes of transformation associated with them.

Ad Simonis (1931–2020) was Bishop of Rotterdam between 1970 and 1983 and subsequently Archbishop of Utrecht until 2007. In 1985, he was created a cardinal by Pope John Paul II. Historians regard him as a key figure in 20th-century Dutch church history. Simonis’s personal archive complements existing insights into both aspects of his life, his daily routine, his sources of inspiration and his vision of the Church and society. The archive is held at the KDC and has been prepared for research by the author.
Honest letters about culture, faith and the countryside

In 1941, Frits van der Meer (1904–1994) sparked a minor revolution with his Catechism, which presented a completely new approach to proclaiming the faith. His Augustinus de Zielzorger is still regarded as the finest book on Augustine’s pastoral practice. Whilst he was making a name for himself as a professor of art history in Nijmegen, his sister Bertha led a secluded life as Sister Martina, a nun at the Carmelite convent in Drachten. They corresponded with one another for over forty years. His candid letters – hers having been destroyed – are published here, preceded by a concise dual biography.
Spanning five volumes, the work contains 3,339 entries covering 60 per cent of all Catholic periodicals published in the Netherlands. The term ‘periodicals’ encompasses all publications issued periodically, meaning not only daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly magazines, but also annually published almanacs, directories, yearbooks, lists of names and study guides, as well as report books and annual reports of organisations of national or regional significance. In addition to bibliographic details (title, length, format, place of publication), these title descriptions contain a wealth of contextual background information relevant to the user: the history of the periodical, the publishing body or the editorial team. As a result, the long-running periodicals in particular reflect broader developments within the Dutch Catholic community across a cross-section of society.
