KMM Interview project

In order to gain a better understanding of the activities of the Dutch missionaries and of how they themselves experienced their time on mission, the KDC, in collaboration with the Central Mission Commissariat (CMC), set up the ‘KomMissieMemoires’ (KMM) interview project in 1976. The aim of the project was to systematically collect missionaries’ memories and record them on audio tapes. In this way, ‘a collection of memories of Dutch missionaries’ was compiled.

Since 1978, KomMissieMemoires (KMM) has conducted interviews with nearly 900 Dutch missionaries and with people in the Netherlands who were involved in the missionary ‘home front’. Short summaries (abstracts) of these KMM interviews have been published (see the overview below). Detailed transcripts are also available.

A summary has been written for each KMM interview to give an impression of the audio recordings, which can (sometimes) last for hours. In the overview below, you will find the various thematic sections of the KMM abstracts, which are available online as PDFs.

Use the PDFs to decide which KMM interview you would like to listen to again. Note that the PDFs of volume 1 to 6 are only available in Dutch. The PDF of volume 7 is the English translation.
